1984 - Great Detention
Published in 1949 and quickly gaining cult status, British author George Orwell's work 1984 was published in 1949. A novel in the dystopian genre, 1984 has introduced various terminologies and concepts such as "Big Brother", "Thought Police", "Room 101", and 2+2=5 to the modern lexicon.
To summarize the novel briefly, the world of the novel is governed by three separate regimes: Oceania, Eurasia and East Asia... Resembling the Soviet Union, Oceania is a state where the people obey without thinking and have loyalty to someone called Big Brother. The movements, thoughts and behaviors of all people in society are monitored.
The oppositional brotherhood, an underground organization, and its leader Goldstein are seen as the enemies of this society. With the involvement of the main character Winston in various events, the novel will leave some questions in the minds of the readers: Are Big Brother and Goldstein really alive?
This dystopia comes to life again on the theater stage and meets its audience through Dünya Curtain Makers.
