Tanju and Eda are trying to find a rational way to explain to their 5-year-old son Atlas where his grandfather, whose funeral was that day, went. In order to comfort him, they do not take the easy way out and tell him the truth and want him to make his own conclusions, but it is not that easy. Tanju's mother also wants to explain the afterlife according to her own beliefs. When Tanju confronts her son, she receives the most painful news she will ever hear. Before his grandfather died, he secretly made Atlas a Galatasaray fan. Tanju, a fanatic Fenerbahçe fan, risks everything to save his son from this malady because in his eyes, there is only one place Galatasaray fans go in the afterlife.
“If life is a journey, your family packs the suitcase.” Most of the identities we define ourselves and fight for in our lives are dropped on us like an anvil by our family, our environment and society, at an age when we cannot make up our minds. The Fanatic is a comedy about a family who find themselves in conflict with each other while trying to do the best for their young child. If everyone pulls the child in the direction they want, either the child will become who they want him to be, or the child’s arm will remain in their hands.
