Mahşer-i Cümbüş, the pioneer of modern improvisational theatre in Turkey, continues to meet with theatre lovers in its 18th year.
Founded in May 2001 by students of the Theatre Department of the Ankara University Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Mahşer-i Cümbüş began its “Theatre Sports” shows at the Ankara Tenedos Cafe in September of the same year.
Mahşer-i Cümbüş moved to Istanbul in August 2003 and continued its activities there. Since its establishment, Mahşer-i Cümbüş has performed shows and participated in festivals in many cities, primarily in Ankara and Istanbul. Mahşer-i Cümbüş, the pioneer of Modern Improvisational Theater in Turkey, introduced “Theater Sports”, one of the performance forms of Improvisational Theater, to the audience for the first time in Turkey. It opened its own stage, “Mahşer-i Cümbüş Hayalhanesi”, in the 5th year of its establishment. The team has performed over 2000 “Theater Sports” and over 300 “Brain Storming” shows to date.
Mahşer-i Cümbüş, the pioneer of Modern Improvisational Theatre in Turkey, brought Turkey's first improvisational show program, "Instant Image Show" to the screens in 2007, marking the beginning of a brand new era in Turkish television.
