“They Even Shot the Birds” is about the experiences and failures of a curious, excited, dreamy Bosnian girl named “Nadina”, whose name means “hope”, during the Srebrenica Massacre that began in the spring of 1992, and her struggle to survive and breathe “alone”.

The only child of a teacher mother and a baker father, “Nadina” tells the story of the pain, desperation, and fears of the 4 years that developed with the genocide; the longing for light, the rays of light she struggles to dream of in a dark room that smells of mold, urine, and corpses. Her childhood that “smelled of warm bread”, her “cotton mother”, her father, her “Sarı Ayla”, “Miro” and the branches she clung to, the broken branches, her longings, and not giving up… Because in the light of all the longings, smells, and resistances: 'Nadina' means “hope”; to hope means not giving up.
