Sabahattin Ali's novel Madonna in a Fur Coat, which is actually said to be a love story he experienced himself, took its place as the author's first and last love novel in 1943. Adapted and directed by Taner Barlas in August 2023, this work, apart from literature, is now meeting theater audiences and taking its place on the stage. Raif Efendi's passion for going to exhibitions, which was caused by his interest in painting, and his encounter with the portrait of Madonna in a Fur Coat, was the beginning of a magical journey. This very special love story is also perhaps the name of being able to exist for the first time in their lives. The encounter with Frau van Tiedemann, who was a distant relative of Maria Puder, which the author describes as a treacherous coincidence, threw Raif Efendi into unbearable torture. The tragic event that happened to Madonna, with whom he had a passionate love, caused Raif Efendi to struggle with emotions he could not cope with. The black-covered notebook, which he describes as his only friend, enters his life here. He entrusts the notebook to his colleague at the same company and the only person he trusts. The notebook is opened and the ten-year-old secret is revealed for the first time. The play emerges as a story of despair but also hope, fear and excitement, the sublimity of love, self-creation and, with the combination of all of these, adding meaning to life.
